Just taking some time to check in with the scribbles fam and talk from the heart.

As I sat to continue in Genesis I couldn’t help but hear a verse ringing in my head.

“be ye not just hearers but doers of the word.”

This got me thinking of how I’m following through in life with what i’m receiving from God’s word. Here’s some of the thoughts that followed:

“What goes up must come down”

Life has often had it’s highs and lows. Interestingly the Lord has never promised to save me (or anyone for that matter) from difficulty. There is never a significant and legitimate excuse that will allow us to not keep in step with God’s Holy Word and Spirit. Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble, but fear not, I have overcome this world.” This radical statement has often been my grip of sanity in some pretty insane moments. When it seems as though the Odds are stacking up against you, remember that which goes up eventually will be torn down to pieces by the power of Christ in and through us. “We have these weapons of warfare for tearing down strongholds…” by the truth and inerrancy of God’s word and the power of God’s guiding Holy Spirit we too can witness this truth at work in those difficult moments that threaten to keep us from obeying that which we have heard from the word.

“What goes in must come out.”

This is strangely one of those less popular cliche phrases that most people don’t like to recite much less think about. Probably because it refers to some pretty nasty mental images alluding to poop. In spite of the funny illustration the principle remains true. What we take in will always come out in one fashion or another. When we take in food, it comes out as the exertion of energy or through the less appealing subject matter of potty produce. I find as I consider my life and that which has come out of what I have taken in, I’m often surprised at what has been productive and lasting, and what of my attempts have been waste and fleeting down the drain.

As I prepare to continue through this study through Genesis I find that it’s quite a radical challenge to my own personal walk and faith in the Lord. There isn’t one day that I write that i’m not in wonder of the way God has torn down the odds and moved the mountains in my life, and at the same time seperated and sanctified the less appealing and stinky output of that which i’ve taken in.

With all this said, my prayer today is that you would not only take in the word and spiritually squat, instead i would urge you to take in the word and seek the Lord on how to “work out” your faith in spirit and truth to the glory of Christ’s name.

take it in and give it out

-Dan
